Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 7, 2023
Hebrews 11:1-3
1 Faith is the reality of what we hope for, the proof of what we don’t see. 2 The elders in the past were approved because they showed faith. 3 By faith, we understand that the universe has been created by a word from God so that the visible came into existence from the invisible.
Good Morning. Bless the Lord, O My Soul
Defining and recognizing faith are among our greatest stumbling blocks as Christians. This is not a new challenge. Throughout the Bible, we read examples of those with great faith and those with doubts. Like us, sometimes both of those, faith and doubt, are within the same person.
For what do we hope? We don’t hope for what we already have. Think about your earlier life: most hope for love, happiness, a long life. We make choices along the way that we hope will lead us to what we wish. Within the concept of hope, we don’t know how and when. We don’t have all the details in order because all of the pieces haven’t been revealed to us yet.
Faith is taking each step forward and knowing that through Christ, we will be loved, happy, and have eternal life. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” When our doubts creep in, we must reaffirm our trust in God and let God manage the parts we aren’t yet ready to understand.
Creator God, We love you! We have strong hopes, but we struggle with trust. Help us develop the faith that allows us to place our doubts in your capable hands. Thank you. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Place my hope and faith in God’s tomorrow.
Be happy! God Loves Us! Pastor Liz
