Morning Devotional 110821 Called to Share

Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

November 8, 2021

Read Acts of the Apostles 1:4-8

4 While they were eating together, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised. He said, “This is what you heard from me: 5 John baptized with water, but in only a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 6 As a result, those who had gathered together asked Jesus, “Lord, are you going to restore the kingdom to Israel now?” 7 Jesus replied, “It isn’t for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has set by his own authority. 8 Rather, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Good Morning! This is the day that the Lord has made!

Jesus directs us to be his witness to all the earth. This is a great continuation of yesterday’s devotion where we are called to be ambassadors. It is interesting to consider that regardless of your gifts, regardless of your chosen vocation, we are called to share the word. We are given the power when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior and the Holy Spirit comes upon us.

As with so many things, it is easy to want to defer that calling to someone else: the pastor, the youth leader, the Sunday school teacher, or anyone that you feel is better at speaking than you are. Remember when Moses, who believed that he was “slow” of tongue, tried to defer the call to his brother.

10 Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant. But I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” 11 The Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who made the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you must say.” Exodus 4:10-12

Our Lord will give us everything we need to answer His call.

Loving God, Thank You for loving us. Work within us so that we are ready to answer you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: How is God shifting the focus of my life?
