Morning Devotional 111124 Rescue Us!

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  November 11, 2024

Matthew 14:26-33

When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified and said, “It’s a ghost!” They were so frightened they screamed. 27 Just then Jesus spoke to them, “Be encouraged! It’s me. Don’t be afraid.” 28 Peter replied, “Lord, if it’s you, order me to come to you on the water.” 29 And Jesus said, “Come.” Then Peter got out of the boat and was walking on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when Peter saw the strong wind, he became frightened. As he began to sink, he shouted, “Lord, rescue me!” 31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him, saying, “You man of weak faith! Why did you begin to have doubts?” 32 When they got into the boat, the wind settled down. 33 Then those in the boat worshipped Jesus and said, “You must be God’s Son!”

Good Morning! God rescues us out of the depths!

Veteran’s Day is a day to thank all who have served in the armed forces. When you take your oath of office, you promise to support and defend our country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. This commitment is not to be taken lightly. Our military personnel are asked to put their lives on the line for the safety of all Americans. To all who have served and are currently serving, thank you for your service.

I have never sat in a foxhole or flown a plane into battle, but my prayers would be unending during such times. Never has the phrase, God is my co-pilot rung truer than for our brave pilots in a fight for their lives. Because of our military members, we are not subjected to daily threats to our homes and lives. Again, thank you for your service.

God blesses and curses each of us with free will, allowing us to make choices, good and bad, that affect our lives and the lives of others. We sometimes find ourselves on a personal battlefield strewn with physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual obstacles. After a series of poor decisions, we begin to doubt all we believe to be true, and we land in a metaphorical foxhole from which we see no exit.

God blesses us and is waiting to rescue all who call Jesus their Lord and Savior: Oh Lord, I am a sinner; please forgive and rescue me from the mess I have created. God, who is merciful, loving, and kind, welcomes home his children who have lost their way. Hallelujah! Amen!

Dear Lord, We are your children! We want to be in control, which often leads to poor decisions. Thank you for being there to help us in our time of need. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Jesus can rescue us from troubled waters.

Jesus rescues those who call upon his holy name! Pastor Liz
