Morning Devotional 111322 Blessings Upon Blessings

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

November 13, 2022

Read Jeremiah 17:7-8

7 Happy are those who trust in the LORD, who rely on the LORD. 8 They will be like trees planted by the streams, whose roots reach down to the water. They won’t fear drought when it comes; their leaves will remain green. They won’t be stressed in the time of drought or fail to bear fruit.

Good Morning, I’ve got peace like a river in my soul!

Our God is an awesome God! The past two days have been such a blessing that I can hardly find the words to describe them. Last December, I was contacted by a member of one of our first churches about officiating her wedding. As a 4th grader, she had asked Lowell to “marry” her when she was ready to get married. When Lowell passed away, she and her mom made the long trek to Afton for his celebration of life service. We laughed and cried over the request of someone so young, so when she contact me I was touched and said that I would be honored.

Traveling back to Southside Virginia where we served together for two successive appointments was special. As I traveled south through the rain Friday afternoon, the memories flooded my mind and suddenly names, places, and events that I had “forgotten” made me smile. Saturday morning, I decided to travel to the adjoining county and drive by the churches of our four-point charge. Wow! I’m not sure how we made it on time each Sunday morning. Just as I have aged, so have the buildings, but they were precious in my sight.

I finished out my morning by visiting places and thanking God for my blessings. 7 Happy are those who trust in the LORD, who rely on the LORD. As I arrived for the wedding, happiness filled my soul. To stand and praise God as I pronounced the happy couple husband and wife, filled me with such joy as I stood where Lowell had stood and done years earlier. Blessings abound and our lives are fruitful with Christ as our foundation.

Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. You fill our lives with love! May our roots remain strong and watered in You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God surprises me each day with simple blessings.
