Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 13, 2023
2 Corinthians 9:6-9
6 What I mean is this: the one who sows a small number of seeds will also reap a small crop, and the one who sows a generous amount of seeds will also reap a generous crop. 7 Everyone should give whatever they have decided in their heart. They shouldn’t give with hesitation or because of pressure. God loves a cheerful giver. 8 God has the power to provide you with more than enough of every kind of grace. That way, you will have everything you need always and in everything to provide more than enough for every kind of good work. 9 As it is written, He scattered everywhere; he gave to the needy; his righteousness remains forever.
Good Morning. O, the Lord’s been good to me, and so I thank the Lord!
Paul reminds us to give generously to others, not because we feel obligated to do so, but because we want to. In fact, we can’t help ourselves. We see a need, and we give without thinking. By this, I mean that we don’t judge the one to whom we give, and we don’t consider the inconvenience this might cause us. By faith, we believe that God will provide for us if we “overgive” to one in need.
The key is reacting to the situation, caring for others, and doing so cheerfully. Suddenly, the image of Ebenezer Scrooge dancing and shouting for joy pops into my brain. After years of being a mizer, he is overwhelmed with feelings of great joy as he willingly shares what he has with the Cratchets. Sorry for the early Christmas reference. Ha Ha! Sometimes, they just bubble up and slip out.
8 God has the power to provide you with more than enough of every kind of grace. By the grace of God, we are loved, protected, and saved! Hallelujah! Amen!
Heavenly Father, Thank you for loving us. Our cups are overflowing. Show us how to give to others as lovingly as you do to us. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Thought for the day: A generous heart pleases the Lord.
Give generously! Pastor Liz
