Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
November 14, 2021
Read Matthew 9:18-22
18 While Jesus was speaking to them, a ruler came and knelt in front of him, saying, “My daughter has just died. But come and place your hand on her, and she’ll live.” 19 So Jesus and his disciples got up and went with him. 20 Then a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came up behind Jesus and touched the hem of his clothes. 21 She thought, If I only touch his robe I’ll be healed. 22 When Jesus turned and saw her, he said, “Be encouraged, daughter. Your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that time on.
Good Morning! He touched me and made me whole!
On this crisp, clear morning, the sky is beautiful. I can see my favorite constellations Orion and Ursa Major. As I gaze at the sky, I feel this warming glow within me reminding me that God is with me now and always. For me, Fall is a time to slow down and give thanks for all of my blessings.
The faith to be healed by simply touching the robe of Jesus is amazing. Earlier this week, we read the story of the centurion’s servant being healed from afar and now a healing from initiated by the afflicted. There are so many afflictions that attack our bodies, our minds, and our spirits. Perhaps the greatest affliction is the inability to trust God.
God promises to be with us always as evidenced with the death and resurrection of his only son, Jesus. Jesus is our advocate with God. Our first step is to release ourselves from our fears and anxieties by turning everything over to God. This is hard for most of us. Each time I turn over a fear, I gradually take ownership of it and I start the process again. It takes time to develop the true faith as shown by the woman in this passage. Fortunately, our God is an awesome God and is willing to wait for us. Hallelujah
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. May we allow the Holy Spirit to transform us into beings of true faith. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God hears and answers my prayers.
Trust God! Pastor Liz
