Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
November 16, 2021
Read 1 Peter 5:6-11
6 Therefore, humble yourselves under God’s power so that he may raise you up in the last day. 7 Throw all your anxiety onto him, because he cares about you. 8 Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith. Do so in the knowledge that your fellow believers are enduring the same suffering throughout the world. 10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, the one who called you into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself restore, empower, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be power forever and always. Amen.
Good Morning! Humble yourselves to God!
Standing firm in the faith will keep us on our pathway to God. To do this, we must face challenges along the way. God might call you to help someone who is struggling. What if this person is a stranger who looks and acts very differently from you? Will you reach out and help or will you turn away?
Maybe you’re the one who needs the help. How will you react when that stranger offers to help you, or will you run away? I am reminded of the parable of the sheep and goats.
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:31-46
When we humble ourselves before God, we place our whole selves in his service without regard to our earthly preconceptions. Here I am, Lord. I will go where you lead me and do what you ask me to do.
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. Help us be the sheep who live to serve you whenever and however we are called. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God will guide me in whatever God has asked me to do.
Humble Yourselves and Pray! Pastor Liz
