Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 19, 2024
Hebrews 2:1-4
1 This is why it’s necessary for us to pay more attention to what we have heard, or else we may drift away from it. 2 If the message that was spoken by angels was reliable, and every offense and act of disobedience received an appropriate consequence, 3 how will we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? It was first announced through the Lord, and then it was confirmed by those who heard him. 4 God also vouched for their message with signs, amazing things, various miracles, and gifts from the Holy Spirit, which were handed out the way he wanted.
Good Morning! Have you heard the message?
What happens if you walk down the street with your eyes closed or your head down? You will likely bump into someone or something, or worse, you risk great injury to yourself. In today’s world, we are so focused on our devices that we forget to look away from the screen.
Do you remember the old Road Runner cartoons? Wile E. Coyote was trying to get the Road Runner. He would concoct elaborate schemes complete with signs and traps to catch the Road Runner, but the Road Runner was able to figure out the plan and avoid capture. In fact, Wile E. Coyote was most often the victim of the plan.
In the cartoons, there was no dialog, only signs and images. You knew what was about to happen for the ones paying attention because it was obvious to the observer.
For those seeking Jesus, God provides signs, amazing things, miracles, and gifts to lead us to Christ. We must simply pay attention, and it will be obvious. Those walking with eyes (minds) closed or with their head downward will miss the message because they are caught in the traps of their earthly existence.
Matthew 7:7-8 7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Dear Lord, We are your children! We forget to pay attention to divine things because we focus on earthly things. Open our minds, thoughts, eyes, ears, and hearts to be with you. Praise be to God! Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Pay attention, or you might find yourself caught in the trap.
The door is always open to those who seek! Pastor Liz
