Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 27, 2022
Read Psalm 143:7-10
7 Answer me, LORD—and quickly! My breath is fading. Don’t hide your face from me or I’ll be like those going down to the pit! 8 Tell me all about your faithful love come morning time because I trust you. Show me the way I should go, because I offer my life up to you. 9 Deliver me from my enemies, LORD! I seek protection from you. 10 Teach me to do what pleases you because you are my God. Guide me by your good spirit into a good land.
Good Morning, Behold, I bring you tidings of great joy!
It is time to prepare! Advent is here and we begin our annual journey to Bethlehem. For me, this is the best time to view things through the eyes of a Child. The awe and wonder from my childhood are bubbling up inside me. As I add lights around my house and yard, my eyes are drawn deeply into the glow as I am transported to that time long ago when Mary was awaiting the arrival of her baby.
My head is filled with the stories of the shepherds, the angels, Mary and Joseph, the innkeeper, the animals in the barn, and of course the baby lying in the manger. The Star is overhead and the wise men have begun their journey from afar.
I see Advent as the time to renew our faith. When we are consumed by the troubles of the world and things seem so bleak and dark, we once again tell the stories and light the lights and suddenly we are reborn. Our breath of life returns as we see the hope of a better day. God provides us with endless blessings and is always with us. When we feel that God is far away, we are the ones who have stepped away and forgotten to listen and look for the signs.
John the Baptist tells us to get ready and prepare a place. The time is near! Use this blessed time to renew your faith by making a journey that you have made so many times: a journey to Bethlehem. Are you ready to receive those tidings of great joy? Reach out and claim your gift!
Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. We love You. It is time for us to reclaim that which You have given to us. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Like a loving parent, God rejoices over me.
Rejoice! The Lord is near! Pastor Liz
