Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

Read Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He doesn’t grow tired or weary. His understanding is beyond human reach, 29 giving power to the tired and reviving the exhausted. 30 Youths will become tired and weary, young men will certainly stumble; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.
Good Morning! Let’s fly up on wings like eagles!
After several cloudy mornings, this morning’s sky is amazing, and with the unseasonably warm weather, I was compelled to sky gaze for a bit longer than I have lately. I find such comfort in looking at the constellations. I marvel at how far away the stars are that I’m looking at. I think of how all generations of people on the earth have looked and are looking at the same stars.
When I talk about God transcending time and space, I believe that gazing at the stars is the closest thing for me to grasp an inkling of understanding into what this means. If you consider the science of all of this, i.e. speed of light and what or when are we actually viewing, it gets complicated. Occasionally, I put on my science geekiness and do some calculations, but most of the time I prefer to just marvel at God’s creation.
Yesterday, we looked at the need for rest: physical, mental, and spiritual. We took time to remember how Jesus modeled for us that it’s okay to take time to rest. When we accept Christ as our Lord, we are directly connected to God. God, who never tires or grows weary, is there to renew our strength when we call upon Him in prayer.
The power and grace of one eagle in flight are beautiful to behold. Each slow flap of its wings powers it for amazing distances. When you are tired and weary, remember to pray to God, who will lift you up to catch the wind of the Holy Spirit working within you so that you may run and not be tired, walk and not be weary. Hallelujah!
Creator God, Thank You for loving us. Sometimes we think that we can’t go on, but you are always there to provide us with renewed energy. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When Christ calls, I will follow.
