Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 9, 2025
Matthew 14:22-26
22 Right then, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead to the other side of the lake while he dismissed the crowds. 23 When he sent them away, he went up onto a mountain by himself to pray. Evening came, and he was alone. 24 Meanwhile, the boat, fighting a strong headwind, was being battered by the waves and was already far away from land. 25 Very early in the morning, he came to his disciples, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified and said, “It’s a ghost!” They were so frightened they screamed.
Good Morning! Fear not! God is with us!
I remember times when I was asked to go ahead to prepare for the next event, while one would stay behind to wrap up. One time, I arrived at the next location and found that everything was a mess. The promised chairs and sound system were not in place, so I had to go and track down where our missing items were. I was anxious because I wanted to do a good job on the task assigned to me.
I was rushing around in a panic when my partner arrived. When I saw her, I cried out, “I’m so sorry,” and I started telling her about all the problems I was working to overcome. She looked me in the eyes and said, “Everything is going to be okay!” Together, we can make this work.
I was filled with her calmness, and together we prepared for the upcoming event.
In our times of fear and anxiety, Jesus calms the storms raging inside of us. In the moment of calm and peace that arrives when we accept Jesus, we see new possibilities.
Lord, you bless us abundantly! We long for your presence to calm our fears. Thank you for sending Jesus to be with us. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Jesus is the source of our hope!
Jesus calms our storms! Pastor Liz
