Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 22, 2023
Romans 12:9-14
9 Love should be shown without pretending. Hate evil, and hold on to what is good. 10 Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other. 11 Don’t hesitate to be enthusiastic—be on fire in the Spirit as you serve the Lord! 12 Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you’re in trouble, and devote yourselves to prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of God’s people, and welcome strangers into your home. 14 Bless people who harass you—bless and don’t curse them.
Good Morning. Don’t hesitate to be enthusiastic!
The countdown is on! The arrival of Christ is almost upon us! Are you ready?
These five verses encapsulate the Gospel message. Paul is preaching the Good News. You could create a daily checklist from these words.
✅Show love without pretending!
✅Hate evil.
Hold on to what is good!
✅Love each other like the members of your family. Excel at showing honor to each other! To be continued
Imagine reading these each morning to remind ourselves of our daily “agenda.” Then again, we would check off those we accomplished at day's end. Of course, we are not to complete the checklist for anyone but ourselves. Ultimately, it is God who will judge our efforts.
As many of us gather with friends and family over the next few days, may we remember to show love to one another without pretending and hold on to what is good. Our days to celebrate together are precious; we do not know when one will be called to glory. Do not waste one moment to hold tight to those you love.
Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Thank you for showing us the way to You. Thank you for giving us time to practice. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Our earthly journey is a time to practice our Christian walk!
Love is the answer! Pastor Liz
