Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 22, 2024
John 8:12-18
12 Jesus spoke to the people again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me won’t walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” 13 Then the Pharisees said to him, “Because you are testifying about yourself, your testimony isn’t valid.” 14 Jesus replied, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, since I know where I came from and where I’m going. You don’t know where I come from or where I’m going. 15 You judge according to human standards, but I judge no one. 16 Even if I do judge, my judgment is truthful, because I’m not alone. My judgments come from me and from the Father who sent me. 17 In your Law it is written that the witness of two people is true. 18 I am one witness concerning myself, and the Father who sent me is the other.”
Good Morning! Happy Lord’s Day! Love is in the air!
To whom do we belong? Do others know that we are Christians?
In Luke, the angels tell the shepherds, “11 Today in the city of David, a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord! And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” The shepherds traveled to Bethlehem and found the baby of whom the angels spoke.
We are called to be the face of Christ for the world. Think about a face. It is unique to each person and contains the eyes that see, the ears that hear, and the voice that speaks. We can look at people with eyes of love, hear the cries of their hearts, and speak to them words of life.
Imagine if we allow the love of Christ to pour from our beings to serve the needs of others. This is the love that lights up the world so that no one walks in darkness. Let the world know to whom you belong through the love that you share.
Loving Lord, We are your children! You gave us the greatest gift that we could ever receive. Remind us to open the gift and share it with the world. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Live in a way that brings Christ’s light to the world.
Let Christ’s love define you! Pastor Liz
