Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
December 27, 2021
Read John 2:1-12
1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and 2 Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. 3 When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They don’t have any wine.” 4 Jesus replied, “Woman, what does that have to do with me? My time hasn’t come yet.” 5 His mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Nearby were six stone water jars used for the Jewish cleansing ritual, each able to hold about twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water,” and they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, “Now draw some from them and take it to the headwaiter,” and they did. 9 The headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine. He didn’t know where it came from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. The headwaiter called the groom 10 and said, “Everyone serves the good wine first. They bring out the second-rate wine only when the guests are drinking freely. You kept the good wine until now.” 11 This was the first miraculous sign that Jesus did in Cana of Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him. 12 After this, Jesus and his mother, his brothers, and his disciples went down to Capernaum and stayed there for a few days.
Good Morning! Look for the signs among us!
It is a blessing to sit and meditate this morning. Our morning stroll was comfortable as we breathed in the winter air. It is always interesting what you notice in the pre-dawn darkness. Each small light stands out as a beacon to lead us on our way. As the sky brightens with the sun, these lights fade and until they become unnoticed.
Have you ever noticed that the many signs leading us to Christ? Some are best seen in the darkness of the night. Others are only visible on a bright, sunny day. Then there are the signs that seem to appear out of nowhere when we feel most vulnerable and lost. You might think, “I never noticed that before.” These signs are not there simply by chance, but they are carefully placed to lead us on our way as we move along our journey of faith.
For the world, when Jesus turns the water into wine, it is the first sign pointing to our salvation. When we give our lives to Christ, he promises to be with us as we journey towards eternal life. Just like any good map, Jesus provides us with signs to direct us and comfort us as we come to the detours that dot our path. Trust God and believe that Jesus will lead us to our final destination.
Creator God, Thank You for loving us. Sometimes we feel as if we are wandering aimlessly. Help us notice the signs that surround us so that we may feel your love and mercy working within us. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Jesus’ miracles point us to salvation.
Do you see the signs? Pastor Liz
